Seema, a film directed by Sabrina Khan, a British-born Fiji and international human rights lawyer, uses its artistic platform to highlight critical social issues and inspire change.
Inspired by the biblical directive in Proverbs 31:8 to “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,” Seema explores the intricate reality of domestic violence.
This personal project is particularly significant for Ms. Khan, who is a survivor of domestic violence herself. The film aims to raise awareness about this serious issue and its widespread impact, carefully illustrating the severity of the domestic violence crisis through stark statistics.
“Domestic violence statistics have worsened for women. I believe we cannot create enough awareness as the situation continues to deteriorate globally,” Ms. Khan stated.
She hopes the film will ignite essential discussions, elevate awareness on an international scale, and aid in breaking the cycle of violence.
Shot in Parramatta, Sydney, Australia, the film stars lead actress Reena Shah along with Australian actor Morrison James.
