Seema, a film directed by Sabrina Khan, a British-born Fiji national and international human rights lawyer, aims to shed light on pressing social issues and foster change. Inspired by the biblical verse Proverbs 31:8, which urges individuals to advocate for those who lack a voice, the film explores the serious matter of domestic violence.
This project holds personal significance for Khan, who is a survivor of domestic violence herself, and serves as an important platform to increase awareness about this critical issue. Seema highlights the devastating effects of domestic violence, spotlighting alarming statistics related to the ongoing crisis.
“Domestic violence statistics continue to worsen for women. I believe we cannot raise enough awareness as the situation is deteriorating globally,” Khan stated. She hopes the film will encourage essential discussions, broaden awareness worldwide, and help in breaking the cycle of violence.
Filmed in Parramatta, Sydney, Seema features lead actress Reena Shah along with Australian actor Morrison James.
