“Seema: A Film Reflecting the Harsh Reality of Domestic Violence”

Seema, a film directed by British-born Fiji and international human rights lawyer Sabrina Khan, uses art to shed light on pressing social issues and drive change.

Inspired by the biblical exhortation in Proverbs 31:8—“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves”—Seema explores the intricate and often painful realities of domestic violence.

For Ms. Khan, a domestic violence survivor herself, the film represents a personal mission to elevate awareness surrounding this critical issue. It illustrates the effects of domestic violence while highlighting alarming statistics that depict the severity of the crisis.

“Domestic violence statistics have worsened for women. I believe we can’t create enough awareness because it’s getting worse globally,” Ms. Khan commented.

She expresses hope that the film will ignite essential conversations, broaden awareness worldwide, and aid in breaking the cycle of violence.

Filmed in Parramatta, Sydney, Australia, the cast of Seema includes leading actress Reena Shah and Australian actor Morrison James.
