“Seema: A Cinematic Call to Break the Silence on Domestic Violence”

Seema, a film directed by British-born Fijian and international human rights lawyer Sabrina Khan, utilizes the art form to shed light on critical social issues and inspire change.

Inspired by the biblical directive in Proverbs 31:8, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,” Seema explores the intricate realities of domestic violence. As a personal project for Ms. Khan, a survivor of domestic violence herself, the film serves as a significant platform to raise awareness about this grave issue.

The movie highlights the ramifications of domestic violence and emphasizes alarming statistics surrounding the crisis. “Domestic violence statistics have worsened for women. I believe we can’t create enough awareness because it’s getting worse globally,” Ms. Khan noted.

Her hope is that the film will ignite essential discussions, increase awareness worldwide, and help break the cycle of violence. Filmed in Parramatta, Sydney, Australia, Seema features a cast that includes lead actress Reena Shah and Australian actor Morrison James.
