The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is set to meet this afternoon, confirmed Prime Minister and Chairperson Sitiveni Rabuka in an interview yesterday.

In May, the COC advised President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere on the candidates for the positions of Supervisor of Elections (SoE), Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS), and Auditor-General.

“The COC will meet tomorrow afternoon. They have not sent those out; they might come in today,” stated Mr. Rabuka.

The COC comprises Mr. Rabuka, Government representative Jon Apted, Cema Bolabola, Leader of Opposition Inia Seruiratu, Opposition representative Tupou Draunidalo, and Attorney-General Graham Leung.

The COC’s mandate includes formally advising and recommending to the President on the appointments of the Chair and members of the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission, the Chair and members of the Electoral Commission, the Supervisor of Elections, Parliament Secretary General, Public Service Commission Chair and members, Police Commissioner, Fiji Correction Services Commissioner, Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander, Auditor General, and Reserve Bank Governor.

Secretary for COC, Solicitor-General Ropate Green, did not provide comments at the time this edition went to press.

In the 2024-2025 National Budget, the commission has been allocated $200,000, a significant increase from the $20,000 allocated in the 2023-2024 budget.
