Second Chances: The Case for Allowing Students to Repeat Classes

The Assistant Minister for Education, Iliesa Vanawalu, stated that opportunities should be extended to students who struggle academically. His remarks came in response to inquiries about the potential reintroduction of the repeat system in schools. Mr. Vanawalu highlighted that many students who have repeated classes have gone on to achieve notable success.

“We are human beings, and I believe if we are given a second chance to prosper, we should seize it,” he expressed. He noted that several students who repeated grades have successfully completed their degree studies.

“Most of these repeat students find success in their long-term careers. If given another chance, why not?” he added.

The no-repeat policy, aimed at ensuring no student is left behind, was implemented by the FijiFirst government.
