The Assistant Minister for Education, Iliesa Vanawalu, advocates for providing opportunities to students who may not succeed on their first attempt. His comments came in response to inquiries about the potential reinstatement of the repeat system in schools. Vanawalu noted that numerous students who had previously repeated classes have gone on to achieve significant success in their careers.
“We are human beings, and I believe that if we are given a second chance to prosper, we should embrace it,” he stated. He highlighted that many students who repeated grades eventually progressed to complete degree studies and found success in their long-term careers.
The current no-repeat policy, aimed at ensuring no student is left behind, was introduced by the FijiFirst government.
