Second Chances: Should Schools Bring Back the Repeat System?

The Assistant Minister for Education, Iliesa Vanawalu, believes that opportunities should be provided to students who do not succeed in their studies. His remarks came in response to inquiries about the potential reintroduction of the repeat system in schools. Vanawalu noted that many students who have had to repeat classes eventually find significant success in their academic and professional lives.

“We are human beings, and I believe that when given a second chance to thrive, we should seize it,” he stated. He highlighted that numerous repeat students have gone on to complete their degrees and achieve success in their long-term careers.

“If given another chance, why not take it?” he added.

The current no-repeat system, aimed at ensuring no student is left behind, was established by the FijiFirst government.
