The Assistant Minister for Education, Iliesa Vanawalu, has expressed the importance of providing opportunities for students who struggle academically. His remarks came in response to inquiries about potentially reinstating the repeat system in schools. Vanawalu noted that many students who have repeated classes go on to achieve significant success in their academic and professional lives.
“We are human beings, and I believe if we are given a second chance to prosper, we should take it,” Mr. Vanawalu stated. He highlighted that numerous students who have repeated grades have gone on to complete degree programs and thrive in their careers.
“Most of those who have had to repeat classes find success in their long-term careers. If they are offered another opportunity, why not take it?” he added.
The current policy of not allowing students to repeat grades, known as the no-repeat system, was implemented by the FijiFirst government.
