All scouts in Fiji have been urged by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere to actively participate in promoting gender equality in various programs and to extend support to vulnerable groups, especially the elderly.
During the opening ceremony of the National Scout Jamboree 2024, attended by over 2,200 scouts, leaders, and volunteers at Lawaqa Park, President Katonivere highlighted that scout jamborees are created to build friendships and allow scouts to showcase their skills in areas such as cooking, cleaning, knot tying, and hiking.
He acknowledged the efforts of scout leaders, many of whom are teachers, for their continuous guidance and support.
“Though it requires significant sacrifice, as scouts, we have committed to this mission to help our youth grow into responsible citizens in the future,” he stated.
