Fiji’s President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has called on all scouts to engage in promoting gender equality across all programs and to support vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly. Speaking at the opening of the National Scout Jamboree 2024, held at Lawaqa Park and attended by over 2,200 scouts, leaders, and volunteers, he emphasized that jamborees are opportunities for fostering friendships and showcasing scouts’ skills in various activities, including cooking, cleaning, knotting, and hiking.

President Katonivere acknowledged the contributions of scout leaders, many of whom are teachers, for their continuous support and mentorship. He remarked, “Despite the significant sacrifices, as scouts, we have committed ourselves to this purpose to help our youth grow into responsible citizens in the future.”
