The heads of schools and school management committees have been formally warned about their responsibilities in upkeeping the conditions of their educational institutions. This notice comes from the Minister of Education, Aseri Radrodro, following revelations of mismanagement of public funds allocated for maintenance at Nabua Primary School, where conditions have deteriorated significantly.
Minister Radrodro emphasized the importance of school committees and the local community in taking ownership of their educational facilities, stating that the overall quality of education may suffer if responsibilities are neglected. To address infrastructure issues in schools, he has ordered the engagement of community leaders, stakeholders, and district officers, reinforcing the Coalition government’s commitment to collaborative problem-solving.
In related news, the Education Ministry has denied claims from a member of the Natusara Primary School committee in Kadavu regarding transportation disruptions for students. The Minister clarified that the transport services had resumed, ensuring that students would not be hindered in their exam preparations. Students had already completed the Year 8 examinations earlier in the term and were set to proceed with their next exams as scheduled.
The Minister reassured stakeholders that payments for transportation services are being processed at the established rate and will take about five business days to complete once required documents are submitted to the respective district offices.
Furthermore, the Ministry encouraged vendors seeking additional vouchers to provide necessary documentation, including a request letter from the service provider, a support letter from the community and Head of School, as well as a cost analysis.
