Seven schools in Labasa were reportedly burglarized before the term two break. Initial reports indicate that money and snacks were stolen from all the affected schools.

Assistant Education Minister Iliesa Vanawalu stated that ensuring the safety of schools falls under the purview of the school committee, which should consider hiring watchmen or security guards to protect students.

“It’s a learning area for all students. The welfare of the school itself should be a primary goal for schools in Fiji,” he commented. Vanawalu emphasized that the safety of students is of utmost importance.
