School Scandal: Students Linked to Marijuana Ring

Students on Koro Island have been discovered dealing marijuana at school, as reported by Tevita Vunileba, chairman of the Koro Island Crime Prevention Committee. In an interview, Vunileba stated that earlier in the year, teachers at Koro High School, along with local police and the committee, identified these students and provided counseling.

Some students were advised to transfer to different schools, while others faced expulsion. Vunileba indicated that these students were acting as middlemen, selling marijuana on behalf of dealers, with money circulating through multiple intermediaries before reaching the original supplier.

The investigation uncovered that these offenders were not new to such activities, having been suspended multiple times. Consequently, the school opted for expulsion upon the latest violations. The local community is concerned about the potential influence of these students on younger primary school children.

Vunileba expressed appreciation for the cadet program introduced at Koro High School, highlighting its positive impact on student discipline. He noted that in the lead-up to cadet day, there was initial resistance among students regarding haircut regulations, prompting him to cut his hair as an example. He concluded by mentioning that parents were pleased with the changes observed in students.
