The Suva City Council (SCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific Polytech (PP), providing skilled-based employees the opportunity to upgrade their qualifications. Acting CEO Tevita Boseiwaqa noted that this agreement will benefit over 200 staff members engaged in skill-based work.
Boseiwaqa explained that the MoU would encompass three-quarters of the workforce and aims to apply a multi-level and multi-skilled approach to employee development. He mentioned that SCC will conduct a training needs analysis to pinpoint specific areas where staff can maximize the benefits of the MoU, ultimately helping them gain exposure to new skills.
“The more skills our staff possess, the stronger their potential for growth,” he said.
Peni Taoi, the founding director of Pacific Polytech, praised the new agreement, which adds to already existing MoUs with Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils that offer similar advantages to their employees. He emphasized that Pacific Polytech focuses on technical training and upskilling in response to emerging opportunities. This agreement marks the third MoU between Pacific Polytech and the councils mentioned.
