The Suva City Council (SCC) is set to enhance the qualifications of its skilled-based employees through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific Polytech (PP). Acting CEO Tevita Boseiwaqa announced that this agreement will benefit over 200 staff members engaged in skill-based roles.
Boseiwaqa emphasized that the MoU aims to cover approximately three-quarters of the workforce, supporting SCC’s multi-level and multi-skills training approach. The council plans to conduct a training needs analysis to pinpoint specific areas where staff can leverage this new agreement.
The analysis will help identify staffing needs while providing employees with opportunities to develop additional skills. “When employees are multi-skilled, they have stronger career growth prospects compared to those who are specialized in one area,” he stated.
Peni Taoi, founding director of Pacific Polytech, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that this MoU adds to their agreements with Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils, which provide similar advantages to employees. “Pacific Polytech focuses on technical areas and offers upskilling opportunities as they arise,” he added. This marks the third such agreement for the council.
