Suva City Council (SCC) has established a partnership with Pacific Polytech (PP) through a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), providing skilled-based employees the opportunity to obtain certificates. Acting CEO Tevita Boseiwaqa highlighted that this agreement will enhance the qualifications of over 200 staff members who are primarily engaged in skill-based roles.
Boseiwaqa explained that the initiative is designed to encompass a significant portion of the workforce, with a focus on a multi-level and multi-skilled approach. The council plans to conduct a training needs analysis to pinpoint specific areas for staff development, aiming to expose employees to a broader range of skills. He emphasized that having multi-skilled employees will bolster growth opportunities, positioning them better in their professional paths rather than limiting them to a single specialty.
Peni Taoi, founding director of PP, expressed enthusiasm about the MoU, which complements similar agreements with the Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils. Taoi noted that Pacific Polytech specializes in technical training and upskilling, enabling employees to seize various opportunities that may emerge. This MoU marks the third collaboration between the council and PP, reinforcing their commitment to workforce development in various regions.
