SCC Employees Set for Skill Upgrade Revolution!

Suva City Council (SCC) employees engaged in skilled-based roles will have the opportunity to advance their qualifications through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific Polytech (PP).

SCC’s acting chief executive officer, Tevita Boseiwaqa, stated that this agreement allows staff to enhance their skills, with over 200 employees expected to participate. He noted that the initiative is relevant to three-quarters of their workforce, emphasizing a multi-level and multi-skilled approach that could significantly benefit staff development.

Boseiwaqa explained that SCC will conduct a training needs analysis to pinpoint specific areas where staff can leverage the MoU, with the goal of broadening their skill sets. He highlighted that having a multi-skilled workforce enhances employee growth potential compared to being specialized in a single area.

PP founding director Peni Taoi expressed enthusiasm for the agreement, which adds to existing MoUs with Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils that offer similar advantages to their employees. He emphasized that Pacific Polytech focuses on technical training and upskilling to meet arising opportunities. This marks the third MoU for the council, following those established in Labasa and Nasinu.
