SCC and Pacific Polytech Join Forces for Employee Skill Upgrades

The Suva City Council (SCC) has recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific Polytech (PP), providing its skilled-based employees the opportunity to enhance their qualifications and obtain skilled-based certificates.

Tevita Boseiwaqa, the acting chief executive officer of SCC, stated that this agreement will involve over 200 staff members who perform skill-based work. He noted that the MoU aims to cover approximately three-quarters of the staff, emphasizing a multi-level and multi-skills approach that can significantly benefit the organization.

Boseiwaqa indicated that SCC will conduct a training needs analysis to determine the specific areas where staff can utilize the MoU. This analysis will help identify skills gaps and provide staff with opportunities for further development.

He explained that by becoming multi-skilled, staff members will be better positioned for career advancement rather than being confined to a single area of specialization.

Peni Taoi, the founding director of PP, expressed enthusiasm for the new agreement, which complements similar MoUs previously signed with Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils that provide comparable advantages to employees.

Taoi highlighted that Pacific Polytech focuses on technical training and upskilling, catering to the emerging opportunities within the workforce. This marks the third MoU established by Taoi with different councils, reinforcing the commitment to employee development across various regions.
