The Public Service Commission (PSC) has retracted the nomination of Pita Wise for the role of Head of Mission in Japan. PSC chairperson Luke Rokovada announced the decision last night, citing the Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s authority to withdraw the nomination.

Pita Wise had resigned from his permanent secretary role on September 25, stating personal reasons for his departure. Prime Minister Rabuka confirmed that his office had received a sexual harassment allegation against Wise, which was subsequently referred to the Public Service Commission.

Wise was considered to replace Filimone Waqabaca, who has been proposed as the head of the Fiji Development Bank. On the previous Friday, the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre and the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement urged the Coalition Government and Prime Minister Rabuka to withdraw Wise’s nomination for Fiji’s Ambassador to Japan.

Mr. Wise has served as the permanent secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister since January and has held various permanent secretary positions in earlier administrations.
