Scandal Brews as New FICAC Commissioner Faces Allegations

Barbara Malimali has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). The appointment was confirmed by FICAC and processed through the Judicial Services Commission with the approval of the President.

According to section 5(1) of the FICAC Act 2007, the Commissioner is appointed by the President based on the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission, which must first consult with the Attorney-General.

In a related development, FICAC also announced that they conducted a raid at the Election Commission yesterday, during which documents pertinent to the investigation of Chairperson Barbara Malimali were confiscated. Malimali is currently facing allegations of abuse of office.
