Say No to Drugs: A Call to Save Our Communities

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, characterized drugs as a national crisis that is wreaking havoc on individuals, families, and communities. Speaking at the crowning ceremony of Miss GoldnWater and Miss Charity during the Vodafone GoldnWater Carnival in Tavua on Saturday, he emphasized the potential devastating impact drugs could have on the nation if not confronted decisively.

He highlighted that the government has introduced a National Drug and Narcotics Strategy while also directing more attention to the Police Force and related agencies to tackle the spread and harm of drugs in communities.

Prasad urged young people and anyone involved with drugs in any capacity to reject drug use firmly. He warned that drug use not only threatens personal well-being but can also devastate families, friendships, and overall productivity, thus undermining the social and economic structure of the country.

He referenced global observations of the drug crisis, particularly concerning hard drugs, noting the destruction they bring to countries, families, and individuals alike.
