“Say No to Drugs: A Call to Safeguard Our Future”

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Hon. Professor Biman Prasad has emphasized that drug abuse is a national crisis that devastates not only individuals but also families and communities. He warned of the severe consequences for the country if drug use is not actively addressed.

While speaking at the conclusion of the Gold N Water Carnival 2024 in Tavua, Professor Prasad highlighted the carnival’s theme, “Educating and Empowering the Wider Community to ‘Say No to Drugs,’” calling it both timely and significant.

He urged, “Say no to drugs; say no to violence against our women and children.”

Professor Prasad noted that the government has implemented a national strategy regarding drugs and narcotics, with a particular emphasis on strengthening the police force and related agencies.

He appealed to the youth and anyone involved with drug use or trafficking, stating, “Please say no to drugs, because it is not only going to destroy you but also your families and friends, undermining the productivity, livelihood, and social and economic structures of our country.”

He concluded by referencing the global consequences of drug abuse, saying, “Wherever we see the plague of drugs, especially hard drugs, we witness the destruction of countries, families, and individuals.”
