Savusavu’s Commercial Expansion: 150 New Jobs on the Horizon!

Additional commercial space has been designated in Savusavu, Vanua Levu, to further stimulate economic growth in the region.

Filimoni Vosarogo, the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, inaugurated a 1.14-hectare commercial site at Qaraniqatio in Savusavu last Friday. This new lot is expected to fulfill the demand for commercial space while providing job opportunities, promoting local businesses, and improving Savusavu’s overall economic framework.

The allocated land will consist of nine to ten commercial blocks alongside parking facilities. It is estimated that each commercial block could potentially create around 15 jobs, leading to the generation of approximately 150 employment opportunities in this compact area of Savusavu Town.

Mr. Vosarogo emphasized that this development aims to retain workforce talent locally rather than losing it to places like Australia, New Zealand, or even Suva. He stated, “This project showcases the effectiveness of collaboration between the public and private sectors, bringing together state entities and private enterprises to establish a foundation for growth in various towns.”

He also noted that progress has been slow over the past decade for various stakeholders. Mr. Vosarogo underscored the significance of supporting local businesses and investors while seizing opportunities for development. He explained that infrastructure is a prerequisite for any meaningful growth to occur.

He expressed gratitude to the Land Planning, Surveying and Engineering Consultants Pte Limited Fiji for their pivotal role in this project. “Being part of the Government, we are committed to ensuring development reaches the North,” he said.

Sanya Dayal, director of Land Planning, Surveying and Engineering Consultants Pte Limited Fiji, remarked that their partnership involved comprehensive feasibility studies, essential for achieving sustainable development objectives, with the vision of creating a vibrant commercial hub in the future. He added that the second phase of the project will focus on improving the Energy Fiji Limited grid, water supply, and road infrastructure for the commercial lots.
