Additional commercial space is being developed in Savusavu, Vanua Levu, to promote economic growth. Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo inaugurated a 1.14-hectare commercial lot at Qaraniqatio in Savusavu last Friday.
This initiative is set to provide essential commercial space, create job opportunities, stimulate local businesses, and enhance the overall economic environment in Savusavu. The state land will incorporate nine to ten commercial blocks along with parking facilities, with the potential to generate around 15 jobs per block.
According to Mr. Vosarogo, this project is anticipated to create employment for 150 individuals, encouraging them to work locally in Savusavu rather than seeking jobs abroad or in Suva. He emphasized the significance of collaboration between the public sector and private enterprises, highlighting it as a crucial element for fostering growth in the region.
He noted that there has been limited progress among various stakeholders in recent years and underscored the importance of supporting local businesses and investors. Mr. Vosarogo acknowledged that development must first be supported by necessary infrastructure.
He expressed appreciation to Land Planning, Surveying and Engineering Consultants Pte Limited Fiji for their leadership role in the initiative. Stating it as an honor to be part of the government, he affirmed their commitment to bringing development to northern regions.
Sanya Dayal, director of Land Planning, Surveying and Engineering Consultants Pte Limited Fiji, mentioned that the partnership conducted feasibility studies aimed at achieving sustainable development goals and establishing a vibrant commercial hub. He added that the second phase of the project would focus on improvements to the Energy Fiji Limited grid, as well as enhancements to water and road access for the commercial lots.
