Saint Mary’s Primary School successfully defended its title at the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition held at Subrail Park. The school excelled in the event, achieving an impressive haul of 30 gold medals, 17 silver medals, and 8 bronze medals, culminating in a total of 55 medals.
Head teacher Sunil Dutt expressed heartfelt gratitude to the 88 athletes for their commitment and hard work, which contributed to the school’s success. He acknowledged the efforts of teachers, coaches, and parents for supporting the students during the competition. Dutt noted that the level of competition was significant, with 17 schools participating this year.
In comparison to the previous year, he shared that the school had earned even more medals, showcasing their continuous improvement in athletics.
Penaia Tunayau, the meet manager for the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition, extended thanks to the organizing committee and teachers for ensuring the safety of all participants, as there were no major injuries reported despite inclement weather. The heavy rain did not deter the athletes, who demonstrated their resilience and talent.
Looking ahead, the successful athletes will now prepare for the upcoming national meet scheduled to take place at the end of this month in Suva, providing them with another opportunity to shine on a larger stage.
