Saint Mary’s Primary School has successfully defended its title at the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition held at Subrail Park yesterday. The school showcased an impressive performance, securing a total of 55 medals: 30 gold, 17 silver, and 8 bronze.

Head teacher Sunil Dutt expressed gratitude to the 88 athletes for their hard work and dedication that brought pride to the school. He also acknowledged the support from teachers, coaches, and parents in encouraging the students. “It was a tough competition among the 17 schools that participated,” he noted, highlighting the challenges they faced.

Dutt announced that their success this year surpassed last year’s medal count, marking a significant achievement for the school.

Penaia Tunayau, the meet manager for the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone, commended the organizing committee and educators for ensuring safety throughout the event and preventing major injuries. He praised the resilience of the athletes, stating that despite the heavy rain, their determination to showcase their talents remained unshaken.

The successful competitors will now set their sights on the national athletics meet taking place later this month in Suva.

This achievement not only reflects the hard work of the students but also the collaborative efforts of the entire school community, showcasing how teamwork can lead to success in challenging conditions.
