Saint Mary’s Primary School successfully defended its title at the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition held at Subrail Park yesterday. The school excelled in the event, securing an impressive 30 gold, 17 silver, and 8 bronze medals, totaling 55 medals.
Head teacher Sunil Dutt expressed his gratitude towards the 88 athletes for their commitment and hard work, which brought pride to the school. He also acknowledged the invaluable support from teachers, coaches, and parents who stood by the students throughout the competition. “It was a tough competition among the 17 schools that participated,” Dutt noted, highlighting the school’s increased medal tally compared to last year.
Penaia Tunayau, the meet manager for the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition, commended the organizing committee and teachers for ensuring the event ran smoothly without any serious incidents, stating that even adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain, could not deter the athletes from showcasing their abilities.
The winners will now shift their focus toward the upcoming national meet scheduled to take place in Suva at the end of the month.
