As excitement builds for the upcoming Fiji Secondary Schools Deans Quarter Final Competition this weekend, police operations will ramp up to ensure a safe and incident-free atmosphere.
Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci announced that attendees, including spectators, participants, and the general public, can expect an increased police presence at the event venues, aimed at maintaining order and safety.
“To ensure the tournament is free from incidents, we urge all stakeholders to collaborate with us so that everyone, particularly our children, can enjoy the games. We are appealing to all spectators, players, drivers, and parents to cooperate with us on Friday and Saturday,” DCP Raikaci stated.
The police are especially emphasizing the importance of traffic safety, urging drivers to follow traffic laws and refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol. This plea comes in light of the tragic loss of a student last week due to speeding and drinking.
“Our primary concern is the safety of those on the roads. We lost a student last week due to speeding and alcohol, and we want to avoid a repeat of this tragedy. Our traffic team will be active on the roads with several checkpoints to ensure proper monitoring,” DCP Raikaci added.
The Fiji Police Force plans to deploy traffic units and set up checkpoints to closely oversee vehicle movements. Additionally, the police are prepared to address any disturbances among spectators, which has been a recurring issue at previous events.
Security measures will also include the K-9 Unit stationed at the main gate, tasked with checking for contrabands to ensure that no illegal items disrupt the event.
