The Fiji Police Force is calling on the community to unite for a safe and enjoyable experience at the upcoming Fiji Primary Schools Tuckers Ice Cream Games, scheduled for November 28-29 at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted that community policing officers are working in collaboration with local school management to ensure the safety and security of all participating schools. He urged parents, guardians, and teachers to focus on children’s safety and to prevent them from being influenced by negative peer pressure.
“Please continue to communicate with your children. It’s crucial as they are impressionable and may find themselves in regrettable scenarios due to peer influence,” ACP Driu emphasized. He recommended that parents establish regular check-ins with their children, connect with the parents of their friends, and designate safe meeting points for emergencies.
Additionally, he reassured the public that extensive security measures would be implemented at the event, extending beyond the games venue to include traffic control and surrounding areas. “We will have security coverage in place to manage not only the games but also the influx of people in Suva afterward,” he stated.
Drivers are urged to be vigilant while navigating near the event site and in school zones. ACP Driu also reminded parents to talk to their children about the possible repercussions of risky behaviors.
The Fiji Police Force wishes all participants the best of luck during the event, signaling a hopeful and safe atmosphere for the games.
This community-focused initiative underlines the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring safety during large public events. By fostering open communication between parents and children, and ensuring security measures are in place, the authorities aim to create a positive experience for everyone involved.
