Safety Concerns Rise at Hibiscus Festival Amid Unsecured Roofs

Opposition MP Jone Usamate emphasized that public safety must always come first. In a recent statement, Usamate highlighted significant safety concerns as attendees prepared for the final day of the Hibiscus festival. He noted that several unsecured roofing tins were dislodged, posing a serious risk.

“Fortunately, there were no injuries during this morning’s incident where roofing tins were blown off their stalls at the festival. However, had this occurred later in the day, we could have witnessed more severe injuries,” he stated.

Usamate raised questions about why the roofs were not properly secured and criticized the Occupational Health and Safety authority for allowing the stalls to operate under unsafe conditions. He also addressed the financial impact on stall owners, suggesting that those who invested thousands of dollars in their stalls deserve compensation.
