Safety Concerns Raised at Hibiscus Festival Amid Unsecured Roofs

Opposition MP Jone Usamate has emphasized that public safety must always be the top priority. In a recent statement, Usamate expressed concerns about safety as attendees enjoyed the final day of the Hibiscus Festival, noting that unsecured roofing tin panels flying off a stall created a significant safety hazard.

“Fortunately, there were no injuries from this morning’s incident involving several roofing tins that were blown off their stalls at the festival. Had this occurred later in the day, we could have witnessed serious injuries,” he stated.

Usamate raised questions regarding the lack of secure roofing and why Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) officials approved the stalls as safe despite the risks. He also inquired about potential compensation for stall owners who invested thousands of dollars in their setups.
