Opposition MP Jone Usamate emphasized the importance of public safety in a recent statement. He raised concerns about several unsecured roofing tins that became airborne during the final day of the Hibiscus festival, highlighting a significant safety risk.

“Fortunately, no one was injured in this morning’s incident involving the flying roofing tins,” Usamate said. “However, if this had occurred later in the day, it could have resulted in serious injuries to festival-goers.”

Usamate criticized the decision to not secure the roofs and questioned why Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) officials allowed the stalls to operate despite their hazardous condition. He also brought up the issue of compensation for stall owners who invested substantial amounts of money for their booths.
