Opposition MP Jone Usamate emphasized the importance of prioritizing public safety. In a recent statement, Usamate highlighted a significant safety concern that arose during the final day of the Hibiscus festival, where unsecured roofing tins were seen flying off the stalls.
“Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from this morning’s incident with several roofing tins dislodging at the festival. If this had occurred later in the day, it could have resulted in serious injuries,” he stated.
Usamate raised critical questions regarding the lack of security for the roofs and criticized the Occupational Health and Safety officials for approving the stalls when they were not secure. He also inquired if stall owners, who paid substantial fees for their locations, would receive any form of compensation.
