Opposition MP Jone Usamate has emphasized the importance of public safety. In a recent statement, Usamate addressed concerns for safety as attendees prepared for the final day of the Hibiscus festival. He highlighted a significant safety risk when several unsecured roofing tins were blown off stalls.
“Fortunately, there were no injuries following this morning’s incident where roofing tins flew off their stalls at the festival. However, had this occurred later in the day, it could have resulted in serious injuries,” he said.
Usamate raised questions regarding the lack of secured roofs and the decision by Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) officials to allow the stalls to operate under such conditions. He also inquired whether stall owners, who invested substantial amounts for their booths, would receive any compensation for the risk they faced.
