Fiji’s first authorized reseller of Starlink’s satellite broadband Internet has been overwhelmed with public inquiries, selling 60 percent of its initial shipment of 600 units before their arrival.
Lightspeed Fiji Pte Ltd, which received its license to resell Starlink’s broadband satellite internet service last week, may need to place another order soon due to high demand.
Company director Richard Broadbridge noted significant interest from rural Fiji. “The most important thing for us is getting internet to rural areas, and we’re receiving many inquiries from Lau, Kadavu, and the outer islands through our Facebook page,” he said. “People in the rural areas have mobile coverage, but many want fast internet. The requirements are changing, and a 3G service is no longer acceptable for many rural residents.”
The first shipment of 600 units is expected to arrive in four to six weeks, with 60 percent already pre-sold. “There’s immense interest in Starlink’s internet. Our days have been filled with meetings with government agencies, tourism organizations, and individuals,” Broadbridge added.
The company is authorized to resell only to businesses and maritime entities. “In our initial stock, we have 20 antennas for ships. As of this morning, we only have one left. It’s selling like hotcakes, and we’re almost in a position where we need to order more stock soon,” said Broadbridge.
Lightspeed Fiji received its Starlink resell license last week. “We’re very pleased with the uptake. It’s providing Starlink with a lot of confidence in Fiji,” Broadbridge concluded.
