Ilisapeci Bari, a debutant on the rugby scene, is brimming with pride as she gets ready to represent Fiji and the Fiji Bulikula team in the forthcoming Pacific Bowl Championships. The 19-year-old talent from Tavua is thankful for the chance to realize her dream of playing rugby for her country, a dream she cherished alongside her grandmother.
Bari hails from a family steeped in rugby tradition; her father, Manasa Bari, played for the Highlanders in Super Rugby and represented Fiji in the 7s team. “I’m overwhelmed and grateful for the opportunity. It was a dream I shared with my grandmother to represent my country, especially in rugby,” Bari stated.
Having a father who is a rugby player, she feels proud to continue the family legacy. “My goal is to make my country proud and to make my family proud as they watch. There’s a lot of pressure as the match approaches, but my family’s support keeps me motivated.”
Her father’s reaction to her selection was one of happiness, as he expressed immense pride in seeing his daughter follow in his footsteps. “When I heard the news, I was thrilled because having one of my children represent Fiji is something truly special, especially at such a young age,” he remarked.
He also encouraged her by reminding her that everything unfolds according to God’s plan, reinforcing her belief in her potential for greatness.
The Fiji Bulikula will face the Cook Islands at 6 PM, followed by the Vodafone Fiji Bati also against the Cook Islands at 8:10 PM, with both matches taking place at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
