A rugby team in Labasa is making significant strides in supporting its players beyond the sport itself. Bokobuka, affiliated with the National Fire Authority, is dedicated to helping its players not only perform on the field but also pursue job opportunities and contracts overseas.

Coach Viliame Maiono emphasized that this initiative is designed to facilitate players in building their careers both within rugby and in other fields. He highlighted success stories, including one player who secured a position with a club in Australia and eight others who gained employment as auxiliary staff with the National Fire Authority.

Maiono further explained that this approach benefits not just the players, but the entire community by illustrating how sports can lead to successful career paths. He noted that many players were previously unemployed, and participation in rugby has opened doors for them, allowing them to secure stable jobs.

The team sometimes faces challenges, especially when fire officers are unavailable on Saturdays to play due to work commitments. Nevertheless, their commitment to both the game and their players’ futures remains unwavering.

This approach by the Bokobuka rugby team underscores the profound impact sports can have on individuals and communities, highlighting not just athletic achievement but also personal and professional development.

In summary, Bokobuka’s dedication to fostering opportunities for its players presents a hopeful outlook for both their sporting careers and their overall livelihoods, reflecting the positive role of community sports in bridging gaps and providing pathways for success.
