The Civil High Court in Suva has dismissed the appeal application submitted by former Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) financial officer, Pawan Deo, against the Trust Board. This decision comes after Deo decided to withdraw his case against the FRU.
The FRU previously filed legal action against Deo, his spouse, and their company, Sports Supplies Limited, alleging embezzlement of approximately $7,000. This case had already been addressed in the Nasinu Magistrate’s Court.
Following the FRU’s withdrawal of their case on July 24, Deo initiated a counterclaim seeking compensation for both financial and non-financial damages incurred due to the FRU’s actions.
During the latest court session, Deo indicated an issue with the Civil High Court registry, which had caused him to travel between Suva and Nasinu repeatedly in an effort to obtain copies of his application. Based on his lawyer’s advice, he informed the court of his intention to withdraw the current application and to refile a new one in the future.
FRU’s attorney, Tomasi Tuitoga, expressed no objections to Deo’s withdrawal but requested that he pay $200 in compensation before November 27.
This case illustrates the complexities involved in legal proceedings and highlights the importance of proper legal guidance. As both parties navigate this situation, the potential for resolution through new applications and negotiations remains.
In summary, Pawan Deo has withdrawn his appeal against the Fiji Rugby Union, following the FRU’s own claim of embezzlement. While the process has faced its challenges, both sides have expressed a willingness to move forward, suggesting a possible path to resolution.
