“Rugby Star’s Unexpected Move Sparks Excitement”

SPEEDSTER Kolora Lomani is open to signing a 7s contract if given the chance.

Lomani, who served as scrumhalf for the Brumbies in this season’s Super W competition, was part of the Fijiana 7s team at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

She joined the team just a month before the Olympics in Madrid, bringing much-needed speed after wingers Younis Bese and Heleina Young suffered injuries.

The former Fijiana Drua player, who won the Super W title in its first season, said the 7s experience at the Olympics was unforgettable.

Despite the disappointing results, she emphasized the special environment, support, and experience.

With that experience, Lomani is considering her future steps.

“I’m not too sure; I guess I’ll take some time off rugby. I’ve been engaged in rugby since last year. If this opportunity comes again, I will definitely take it with a 7s contract. However, I also have plans overseas with 15s Super W next year. Every opportunity counts, and whatever comes my way, I will seize it with both hands,” she said.

The 25-year-old expressed her honor at having the chance to represent her home country in 7s, coming from a 15s background.

“This is probably one of the greatest experiences for me and one that I won’t forget. Even though we did not get the result we wanted, the buildup to the tournament has been great. Getting among the girls and having support not just within the team but also here in France, and especially from home. I know my family has been watching from Australia.

“This is my first Olympics, and becoming an Olympian means so much to me and my family.

“Representing my country in one of the biggest games in the world has been an incredible journey with the girls,” she said.

Lomani, originally from Kadavu, lives and plays in Australia.
