Rugby Scheduling Headaches: Can Grounds Meet the Demand?

The FMF Suva Rugby Union is currently dealing with challenges regarding the availability of grounds for its competitions, as the Koroturaga competition approaches its semi-finals and the Escott Shield competition reaches its final stages.

SRU secretary Nemani Tuifagalele noted that this is the first instance when the Escott Shield reaches the final before the Koroturaga. The scheduling conflicts are attributed to the limited number of available grounds, forcing the union to prioritize the timing of the matches for both competitions.

“We have been hosting more Escott games than Koroturaga due to the available grounds,” Tuifagalele explained. He suggested that a more coordinated effort among sporting organizations might be necessary to tackle the issue of ground availability and scheduling in the future.

“In the upcoming Annual General Meeting, we will likely propose that next year’s schedule allows for better coordination.” Tuifagalele mentioned that the Escott Shield final is tentatively set for October 19, pending approval from the Police team regarding a request from the Navy to move the date.

“We are still awaiting feedback from the Police team about the request to shift the Escott final to October 19. Once they confirm, we will finalize the schedule,” he added.

Additionally, the remaining quarter-final will feature Savusa competing against Eastern Saints at 10 a.m., followed by the first semi-final where Covenant Red will face Marist OB at 11:30 a.m. Both matches are scheduled to take place at Buckhurst Park in Suva.
