Rugby Scandal Unveiled: Couple Charged with Defrauding Fiji Rugby Union

A couple has appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court facing allegations of defrauding the Fiji Rugby Union. Pawan Deo, a former accountant for the organization, and his wife Subhashni Mudaliar are each charged with conspiracy to defraud, obtaining a gain, and securing a financial advantage unlawfully.

The court heard that Deo, as the sole proprietor of Sports Supplies Limited and serving as the FRU’s accountant, conspired with his wife to unlawfully obtain $53,788.75 from the FRU in 2022. It is alleged that they fraudulently processed payments to Sports Supplies Limited, resulting in an unauthorized gain of $7,291.83 for the company, despite it being ineligible to receive such funds.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption reported that the couple appeared in court yesterday where they were both remanded. A bail hearing was scheduled for today.
