A couple has faced the Suva Magistrates Court following allegations of defrauding the Fiji Rugby Union. Pawan Deo, the former accountant for the Fiji Rugby Union, and his wife, Subhashni Mudaliar, are charged with one count each of conspiracy to defraud, obtaining a gain, and obtaining a financial advantage.

The court was informed that Deo, who is the sole owner of Sports Supplies Limited and served as the FRU’s accountant, allegedly conspired with his wife to unlawfully acquire $53,788.75 from the Rugby Union. The alleged fraudulent activities took place in 2022.

It is claimed that they facilitated payments to Sports Supplies Limited and, as a result, received $7,291.83, fully aware that the company was not entitled to that amount. The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption reported that the couple appeared in court yesterday, where they were both remanded. A bail hearing has been scheduled for today.
