Rugby Scandal: Couple Allegedly Defrauds Fiji Rugby Union of Thousands

A couple has been brought before the Suva Magistrates Court for allegedly defrauding the Fiji Rugby Union. Pawan Deo, a former accountant for the Fiji Rugby Union, and his wife, Subhashni Mudaliar, are facing charges of conspiracy to defraud, obtaining a gain, and obtaining financial advantage.

The court was informed that Deo, who is the sole owner of Sports Supplies Limited and the accountant for the Fiji Rugby Union, colluded with his wife to wrongfully acquire $53,788.75 from the union during 2022.

They are accused of fraudulently processing payments to Sports Supplies Limited, resulting in the couple obtaining $7,291.83, fully aware that the payment was not justified.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption confirmed that the couple appeared in court yesterday and both were remanded. A bail hearing for the case was scheduled for today.
