Pastor Gaby Kautoga, who serves as the secretary of the Ba Rugby Union, is deeply invested in grassroots rugby development, particularly at the primary school level, leveraging his background as a former teacher. This season, he dedicated additional time to Koronubu Sanatan Primary School, collaborating with head coach Krishneel Kumar to prepare students from various ethnic backgrounds for the Ba West kids rugby tournament.
Kautoga reported impressive outcomes from the tournament, highlighting that the school clinched victories in multiple categories, including the under-14 Indo boys, under-14 mixed girls, and under-14 mixed boys divisions. Additionally, the U10 girls team achieved a runner-up position.
He expressed enthusiasm regarding the promising future of rugby in Ba, noting its rich history as the first region in Fiji to play rugby in 1884 and the existence of the country’s oldest rugby ground at Rarawai Mill, as well as Bukuya, which boasts the highest rugby ground in Fiji. Kautoga emphasized the community’s strong sense of inclusivity and education, celebrating Koronubu Sanatan’s remarkable achievements in the sport.
