Rugby Rivals Rise: Thrilling Quarterfinal Action in the West

The West Secondary School Rugby League quarterfinals were held at Churchill Park yesterday, featuring thrilling matches among some of the region’s top teams. The competition was divided into two sub-zones: Lautoka/Nadi/Nadroga/Yasawa and Ba/Tavua/Vatukoula/Ra, with the top four teams from each sub-zone advancing to this stage after recent matches concluded.

In a display of high-level competition, teams from both zones battled it out, showcasing their talent and determination. Match coordinator Jemesa Saqali commented on the competitive spirit, noting that the West currently holds the U15 championship title at the national level. “We saw a very competitive and exciting performance from the students. The competition level has definitely improved,” Saqali remarked.

Earlier results in the U15 category reflected the fierce rivalry, with Sigatoka Valley securing a decisive victory over DAV with a score of 30-4. Central College also triumphed over Ra High with a score of 12-0, while Sigatoka Methodist defeated Ba Methodist 18-0. In the U17 grade, Ba Methodist beat St. Teresa College 24-6, Sigatoka Valley overcame AD Patel College (Ba) 22-6, and Ba Provincial showcased their dominance with an impressive 48-0 win against Nakauvadra.

This event highlights the growing talent and enthusiasm for rugby among secondary schools in the West, paving the way for future stars. With teams like Ba Methodist High School and Sigatoka Valley performing well, it demonstrates a promising future for local rugby. As the competition progresses, fans can look forward to even more remarkable games and standout performances.
