Pastor Gaby Kautoga, who serves as the secretary of the Ba Rugby Union, is deeply committed to developing grassroots rugby, particularly at the primary school level, leveraging his experience as a former teacher. This season, he dedicated significant time to Koronubu Sanatan Primary School, collaborating with head coach Krishneel Kumar to prepare students from various ethnic backgrounds for the Ba West kids rugby tournament.
Their efforts yielded impressive results, as Kautoga noted. The school clinched victories in the Under-14 Indo boys category, the U14 mixed girls, and the U14 mixed boys competitions. Additionally, the U10 girls team finished as runners-up in their division.
Kautoga emphasized that these accomplishments highlight the promising future of rugby in Ba. He shared that Ba is a province rich in rugby history, being the site of the first rugby match in Fiji back in 1884, home to the oldest rugby ground at Rarawai Mill, and featuring Bukuya, the highest rugby ground in the country.
He praised the inclusive and educational nature of the Ba community, expressing pride in the achievements of Koronubu Sanatan and their remarkable success in the tournament.
