A rugby club in Labasa is offering its players valuable opportunities beyond the playing field. Bokobuka, a team representing the National Fire Authority, is committed to helping its athletes secure employment and contracts for overseas play.
Coach Viliame Maiono emphasized that this initiative is designed to assist players in furthering their careers, both in rugby and in other ventures. He highlighted that one player has successfully joined a club in Australia, while eight others have been employed as auxiliary staff members by the National Fire Authority.
Mr. Maiono noted that this dual benefit not only enhances the players’ lives but also fortifies the community by positioning sports as a viable avenue for success. He shared that many of the individuals involved with the rugby club were previously jobless, and their participation in rugby has now opened doors for them professionally.
The coach also pointed out that occasionally, fire officers are unable to play due to work commitments on Saturdays, which presents a challenge for the team.
This initiative showcases a commendable approach to fostering talent while also contributing to the community’s well-being. It exemplifies how sports can serve as a powerful tool for personal and professional development.
Overall, this story reflects a positive trend where sports organizations actively support their players’ futures, paving the way for a brighter tomorrow both on and off the field.
