The President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, commended the joint efforts of schools, organizers, parents, and sponsors in creating a nurturing atmosphere for secondary school rugby. Speaking at the 85th Fiji Secondary Schools Under 18 Deans final held at HFC Stadium, President Katonivere highlighted the vital role rugby plays in shaping the future of young Fijians.
“It is always a pleasure to celebrate rugby moments at home, especially when it involves our students – our children,” he stated. He reflected on the importance of the event, noting it as a significant milestone in the history of Fiji Secondary School Rugby, which has now reached 85 years, culminating in the final of the 2024 DEANS Competition.
The President urged the student players to value their experiences and the friendships formed, encouraging them to return even stronger in the following year. “Many young boys and girls would want to be in your shoes. Enjoy the moment, cherish the friendships, and learn from your experiences to become better players next year,” he advised.
Furthermore, he expressed deep gratitude to parents and supporters for their continuous dedication to the players’ well-being.
