Rugby Dreams: Meet Fiji’s Rising Star Ilisapeci Bari

Ilisapeci Bari, a newcomer to the sport, is brimming with pride as she prepares to represent Fiji and the Fiji Bulikula team at the upcoming Pacific Bowl Championships.

The 19-year-old from Tavua expressed her gratitude for the chance to realize her dream of playing rugby for her country, a pursuit she shared with her grandmother. Bari comes from a family steeped in rugby tradition; her father, Manasa Bari, previously played for the Highlanders in Super Rugby and represented Fiji in the sevens team.

“I’m overwhelmed and grateful for the opportunity; it was my and my grandmother’s dream to represent my country, especially in rugby,” said Bari. “It feels great to follow in my dad’s footsteps since he is also a rugby player.”

Thrilled at the prospect of her upcoming debut, Bari is determined to honor her country and family with her performance on the field. “I aim to make my country and my family proud. There’s a lot of pressure going into the match, but the support from my family keeps me motivated.”

Her father expressed his happiness and pride upon learning of her selection, acknowledging the special significance of having his daughter represent Fiji at such a young age. “When I heard the news, I was really proud because having one of my children represent Fiji is something special,” he stated. He reminded her to trust in God’s plan for her life, encouraging her to believe in her potential for greatness.

The Fiji Bulikula will take on the Cook Islands at 6 PM, followed by the Vodafone Fiji Bati also facing the Cook Islands at 8:10 PM at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
